The i3-MARKET Backplane is now live! Representing the culmination of the first phase of the project, the backplane is the results of the reference architecture, the mapping of the security, privacy and trust requirements and will now be tested in three different industrial settings!
In the words of Dr Martin Serrano, of Insight Centre, the Backplane provides the support tools to promote a joint ecosystem for unified European data marketplaces and data spaces, that can address the diverse needs that the demand side for data markets and spaces creates, and as a service provides a one-size-fits-all solution.
Based on open source technology and architecture, the i3-MARKET backplane will exist to provide secure services to the expanding data market and data economy, by ensuring that security and privacy are included by-design. Further to this, the use of Open Source Software can ensure that the Backplane is available for all to use and can reach a larger audience and developer community, promoting the transformation of business industries towards open source technologies.
The Backplane will fill a gap in the current data economy, as digital services are suffering from a lack of support to ensure reliability and robustness, which it can offer through a federated, fully distributed environment.
Security, privacy and trust are the three key pillars of the i3-MARKET Backplane, which is now available in its v1 release. The Backplane brings together the components from the Software Development Kit to allow different data marketplaces and data spaces to integrate and be accessed via common interfaces, formats and systems, through private and secure software that promotes trust in the data and in the transactions that take place.
This will allow companies to overcome previous barriers that were in place when trying to access datasets from different countries, contexts and marketplaces.
